4. Odd one out / classification

Four items, three share a property. Watch for the trap: the obvious grouping is often not the intended one.

5. Blood relations

Family-tree puzzles. Teach the child to draw the tree with a fixed notation rather than holding it in their head.

6. Direction sense

Turns and distances. Again: draw it. A quick sketch takes eight seconds and removes almost every error.

7. Ranking and ordering

"Ravi is fifth from the left and seventh from the right — how many in the row?" Learn the standard formulas and the off-by-one traps.

8. Mirror and water images

Reflections of letters, numbers and figures. Pure pattern familiarity — no reasoning required once the child has seen enough.

9. Paper folding and cutting

A sheet folded, punched, unfolded. This one cannot be reasoned out quickly; it has to be practised until the answer is obvious.

10. Embedded and hidden figures

Finding a shape inside a complex figure. Practice narrows the search enormously.

11. Pattern completion and matrices

A grid with one cell missing. Check rows, then columns, then diagonals, in that order, every time.

12. Simple logical reasoning

Statements and conclusions, basic syllogisms, simple arrangements. Only what follows necessarily counts.
