There is a particular kind of silence in our office when a parent realises the problem is not the score. The child did well. The mistake was on the form, filled in a hurry in November, and there is nothing anyone can do until next year.
These are the nine AISSEE application mistakes we see most often at Amaravathinagar. We are listing them in the order they usually happen.
Every mistake below is unforced. Not one of them requires a smarter child to avoid — only an earlier start. The families who submit in the first week of the window almost never appear on this list.
1. Starting the Form in the Last Week
The application window runs about a month — the full AISSEE 2027 calendar is here. Roughly half of all applications arrive in the final three days, and the portal behaves exactly as you would expect under that load: slow pages, failed uploads, timed-out payment gateways.
What to do instead: submit within the first ten days. If something goes wrong, you have three weeks of runway instead of three hours.
2. A Photograph That Fails the Specification
This is the most common single cause of an incomplete application. The bulletin specifies dimensions, file size, background and recency. Parents upload a cropped WhatsApp photo, the portal accepts the file, and the application is later treated as defective.

3. Date of Birth Entered From Memory
The date of birth decides eligibility — 10 to 12 years as on 31 March 2027 for Class VI, 13 to 15 for Class IX. It is checked against the birth certificate at verification, and it is one of the fields usually locked in the correction window.
Type it while looking at the certificate. Not the school diary, not the Aadhaar card if it differs. The certificate.
4. Claiming a Category Without a Valid Certificate
A category claim with no certificate in the prescribed format is worse than no claim at all. When the claim fails at verification, the child is shifted to the general list — usually below the general cut-off, which in recent Amaravathinagar cycles has sat around 235 to 255 out of 300.

5. Filling School Preferences Carelessly
You give a preference order of Sainik Schools, and you can be allotted any school you list. Parents sometimes add distant schools to "increase chances", then discover in March that their eleven-year-old has a seat 2,000 kilometres away.
For a Tamil Nadu family, the mathematics is clear. 67% of seats at Sainik School Amaravathinagar are reserved for home-state candidates — roughly 77 of 116 Class VI seats in recent cycles. That is the pool you want to be competing in. List it first, and list further schools only if you would genuinely send your child there.
6. Using a Phone Number You Do Not Control
Admit card notifications, result alerts and counselling deadlines all go to the registered mobile and email. Every cycle we meet a family who used an uncle's number, or a work email that was later deactivated, and missed a counselling window.
Use a number and an email the parent will still be holding in April 2027.
7. Closing the Payment Tab Too Early
Payment deducted, form not submitted. It sounds impossible; it is routine. The confirmation page generates a few seconds after the gateway returns, and impatient parents close the tab in between.

8. Skipping the Correction Window
The correction window is short, and parents who are confident in their form ignore it. Then verification finds a wrong father's-name spelling that could have been fixed in ninety seconds.
Use it every time. Sit with the printed confirmation page and read it aloud, field by field, against the original documents. Reading aloud catches what reading silently misses.
9. Treating the Medical as a Formality
The last mistake happens after the score is in. A seat allotted at counselling is provisional until the child clears the medical examination at the school — vision, hearing, heart, lungs, ENT, skin, speech, bones.

The Correction Habit That Prevents All Nine
We give enrolled parents one rule: nothing about the application is done from memory. Every field is filled with the source document physically in front of you, and every completed step is printed and filed the same day.
That single habit removes eight of the nine mistakes above. The ninth — the medical — needs a doctor, not a checklist, and needs one early.

Can an AISSEE application be rejected for a wrong photograph?
Yes. If the photograph does not meet the specifications in the information bulletin, the application can be treated as incomplete or defective. Always open the upload preview and check it against the bulletin's requirements.
What happens if my category claim fails at document verification?
The reserved-category claim is dropped and the candidate is considered against general seats. Because general cut-offs are higher, this usually means losing the allotted seat, which is why certificates must be in the prescribed format and in the child's name.
Can I change my Sainik School preference order after submitting the form?
Preference changes are only possible if the field is editable during the correction window or the counselling choice-filling stage. Fill the order carefully at the start, because you can be allotted any school you have listed.
I paid the AISSEE fee but the form was not submitted. What now?
Check the application status on the portal immediately and raise a query with NTA using your application number and payment reference. This is why the confirmation page must be downloaded before closing the payment tab.
Is the AISSEE correction window enough to fix any mistake?
No. Some fields, typically the candidate's name and date of birth, remain locked even during the correction window. Only editable fields can be changed, so the original entry must be right.
How early should we start the AISSEE application process?
Begin collecting documents in July or August, months before the expected October opening. Certificate corrections, name mismatches and transfer certificates all take weeks that the application window will not give you.
