What the Annual Fee Typically Covers

The Costs Parents Forget

These sit outside the headline number and add up:

• Travel — journeys home at term breaks, and parents visiting on visiting days
• Pocket money — modest but regular, as regulated by the school
• Personal items — toiletries, washing soap, replacements for lost kit
• Optional trips and excursions organised through the year
• Additional uniform or sports items as the child grows
• One-off admission charges in the joining year, including caution money
• Medical costs beyond routine care, where they arise

For most families the practical figure to budget is the published annual fee plus a meaningful buffer for the items above, especially in the joining year.

Fee Concessions and Scholarships

Several categories of assistance exist in the Sainik School system, and they are worth researching carefully rather than assuming:

A child joining in Class VI stays through Class XII. Multiply the annual figure by seven and add the buffer, and the number is large. It is fair to ask whether it is worth it.
